Brief 6: Thinkers
As you regard academia high amongst your influences within design, document particular figures who you admire, whether you agree/disagree with them.
Concept
‘THINKERS’ is an education initiative by the Department for Education, encouraging Philosophy to be one of the core academic subjects. It is important to study Philisphy because the lives people lead and the choices they make are the result of the philosophies they hold, whether they are conscious of this fact or not. The ideas people live and die for, go to war for and kill each other for, or let themselves be inspired to the making of great art or science, are all philosophical ideas. The product is a starter pack intended to introduce one to Philosophy in the hope that they will want to seek further education. The pack includes four publications introducing the student to Freud and Adorno, worksheets to fill in after reading, a marking criteria, exercise books, and information guide and a folder to house them all.
There will be a national campaign through billboards around the UK to promote the education pack which will direct people to the Department for Education website where the pack will be available via post or PDF download.
The additional items in the pack can allow for a parent or teacher, or even the student themselves to see their progress by using the marking criteria, and the information guide can help them better understand the need for Philosophy in mainstream education.
Audience
The age range has to be mature enough and capable enough to retain the information in the pack, and that said, it is also just a starter pack. I think an age range of 16-21 is a good range as it is the start of college and end of university for most. When you begin to be faced with mature concepts. This brief aims to make philosophy mandatory fro age 16 through to college, an age where we begin to understand a little better the world around us.
Deliverables
* A set of four publications introducing two philosophers
* An informational guide explaining the reasoning behind the campaign
* Worksheets and marking criteria
