Brief 2: Miscellaneous Zines
The Brief
Throughout this module you will be excited, confused, upset, angry, elated and probably on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
How are you going to combat this? All of your practices are going to merge into one and as you begin to be inspired by things around you, you will react by taking the best aspects of your surroundings by trying and testing them within your own design practice.
Emerse yourself into zine culture and create an archive of non related zines to show the non design side of yourself still in keeping with your umbrella statement of human behaviour and language.
Concept
Your value is not solely because of your Graphic Design background, but also your personality. How will you showcase both yourself and your talents through this archive?
‘SMELLS LIKE ZINE SPIRIT’ is a free independent arts festival celebrating the best of design, art and photography in the North West. Focusing on popular culture, the festival offers a variety of artist publications, zines, posters and photographic prints. The launch takes place on Sunday the 25th July at Night & Day CafĂ© in Manchester. I have created a series of lighthearted zines that look at trends and movements within popular culture, accompanied by events promo.
Promotional material for the event will be carefully placed around the North West in places where the target audience are most likely to be; cinemas, trainstations etc. There will also be a range of social media promotion, starting on The Mill Press website which then directs you to the blogger, facebook page and twitter of the event.
At the event the public will be able to purchase the zines and also special edition screen prints. There will also be the opportunity to attend screen printing work shops and video tutorials.
Audience
The world, how will you make your mark? Are you going to make them laugh or cry? Target those who are doing what you want to do.
